ACT expands traditional CBT and provides a different approach to dealing with difficult emotions and unhelpful thinking patterns. 

While CBT is focused on challenging and changing self-deprecating and other maladaptive ways of thinking, ACT uses mindfulness techniques to disengage from disturbing thoughts and deal with painful emotions so they have less power over your life.
